NTLUGGERs,
The September, 1999 meeting of NTLUG -- the 36th consecutive NTLUG
meeting!-- will take place on Saturday, September 25th, at Nokia in
Las Colinas. The main meeting starts at 11 a.m. See
http://ntlug.org/cal/ for details and directions.
Presentation and Activities
---------------------------
The presentation on Saturday will feature the President of Loki
Entertainment Software, <http://www.lokigames.com/>, Scott
Draeker. Loki is basically *the* leader in Linux game development;
well, ok, not counting Id Software. :>
We'll also be doing our regular Linux Installation Project, starting
at around 9.30 a.m.
The Linux Newbies Hour, with Ray Foley, begins at 10 a.m.
As usual, Rick "I'm always up for a party" Cook will be selling CDs
and sundries at the meeting. There's even a rumor that NTLUG T-shirts
will be available. Get yours now, before they get changed to "NTLUG,
Inc." :>
Wichita Falls LUG
-----------------
Also, for anyone who lives nearer to Wichita Falls than to Nokia, I
want to pass on the formation of Wichita Falls Linux Users
Group. Ronald G. Barnes writes, "The meeting will be on Tuesday
October 5 at 7:00 PM. The meeting will be held at Trader Tex in
Burkeburnett. It is on the west side of the freeway to Oklahoma. If
you get to the Red River you went too far, turn around and drive back
slowly." They'll be installing Linux on a PC for their first
meeting. Sounds like a nice way to spend a Tuesday in Wichita Falls.
Membership Report
-----------------
The first NTLUG meeting, at TCU in September 14, 1996, was attended by
the first 25 members of NTLUG. I was there that day, as was Chris Cox
and Mike Dunn. I think Chris Browne was there, too. I don't remember
anyone else specifically. If you were there, drop me an email and tell
me.
Anyway, NTLUG membership, now 36 months later, lies just under 1,750
members. That's a pretty decent growth rate. It makes NTLUG, along
with our friends in the Valley, SVLUG, one of the biggest LUGs in the
world.
Congratulations to everyone who's helped make NTLUG a thriving Linux
community in the DFW metroplex. Kudos and penguins to all!
Best,
Kendall Clark, President
NTLUG, Inc.
