This month I will be presenting on how you can
use pam_smb to authenticate Linux users against
a Windows 2K server. This allows the administrator
the ability to lock the local Linux password entry and
then only ONE password (the Win2K one) will be
used on the network. I'll do a basic PAM (Pluggable
Authentication Modules) overview and show you how
to configure (for example), sshd, kde (dtlogin on Solaris,
time permitting) and ftp for authentication to the Windows
domain.

I'll briefly discuss winbindd (not the focus of
the presentation though) and other Windows<->Unix
integration possibilities and why pam_smb is
a good first step today.

I may demonstrate (time permitting) a Solaris example
(only fair since they invented PAM to begin with).

NOTE: pam_smb DOES NOT require the samba package.

The information is an excerpt from a Windows/Unix
Integration class I'll be teaching late next year
at CCCCD.
