Microsoft's .Net vs. Sun's Java and J2EE
Well.. that's the common perception. Turns out
that there's a project designed to allow .Net
applications to run on Linux, Mono.
This could be very timely. Sun and Microsoft
are already joining forces to bridge their
technologies together.
We had a board meeting!!!
Results are that the officers are staying
the same for the moment.
Since many of the officers are also on the
board, we held a mini-officer meeting as
well and came up with some new ideas.
One thing that we'll be attempting is providing
a low cost Linux related software CD burning
capability. For just $2 per CD, you can get
your favorite Linux distribution (for example).
Come see what is possible today with regards
to running .Net applications on Linux.
Here's the catch.. it's EXACT change ONLY.
Here's the gimmick... if you don't have
exact change we'll issue change (where reasonable
folks!) in blank (or NOT blank) CDs.
For now we'll implement this rather adhoc... so
quantities will be limited initially. You'll
want to come to the Linux Installation Project
room to sign up/pay for your CDs... after the
11am meeting starts only a limited number of
people will be serviced (hint).
Other things to look out for:
1. An NTLUG Wiki page!
2. Shirts?
We need help on the shirts. If you know of a
great place where we can get QUALITY shirts
for cheap... let us know! Also, if you fancy
yourself as a graphic artist and think you
have a design that would work (simple, clear
and not a gazillion colors!), let us know!
(The word "us" means mailto:cjcox at acm.org)
On behalf of the board and officers (and I think
they'll concur)... we are looking forward to
a great 2005!! See you at the meeting!
Agenda is the usual:
9am-ish Linux Installation Project
10am Linux Training Group
11am Monkeying Around with Mono
Directions?
http://www.ntlug.org/directions.html
(basically it's the Nokia building at
the intersection of 114 and 161 in Irving)
Hope to see you there!
Chris
