One of the other things your ISP will do is to inject a route to your
Class C network into the core routers. You can do that yourself, but
you'll need an Autonomous System Number from ARIN, and they charge for
them. 

Your ISP will also provide an NNTP news server for your use. You can do
that yourself also, but Usenet overflows a T-1 these days, so you may be
better off just letting the ISP do it. (In fact, this is such a pain
that some ISPs contract out the job to a specialized Usenet news
provider.)

Email you can definitely provide for yourself.
