Anyone feeling a little timid after the crakers thread in this group
may want to get a copy of nmap (search freshmet.net or the like) and do
their own port scan.  Then use tcp wrappers, ipchains, and/or netfilter
to tighten up the system BEFORE testing with nmap again.  And turn off
those sevices you really do not use.

I really recommend the GTK-ed version of nmap for novice scanners. 
FWIW an out of the box Linux distro scores much higher (harder to break
into) than many well secured NT 4/2K boxes.
