DNS, NFS, & NIS in combination.
Have all servers init with a minimum configuration to get networking DNS,
NFS, & NIS running. Then automate the server configuration setup to start
once the init process is complete. Do your loading of config files and
programs from a central server and maybe 1 or 2 mirrors. This way you only
have to maintain a standard init on the individual machines and the complex
stuff on a single machine.
