Well not if the teachers in the same group. Add a new group and add the
teachers to that group (don't change their group that can be too much of a
pain).

He just gave you a simple example. Say you've got 200 directories in
/students (that are already owned by the students.. like what is in the
home directory) then you simply: 

cd /students
chgrp teachers *
chmod -R 770 *

I have a hard time believing the Novell has developed the telepathic OS.
You're going to have to tell the machine exactly what to do no matter
what. In this case that means telling it what directories belong to who.
