Hmm... normally if the IDE driver doesn't recognize the newer features
of an IDE chipset, it will fall back to something that does work. 
Possibly even going so far as to treat it as plain vanilla IDE.

Is your UDMA/66 interface an add-in card?  If it is make sure you have
the BIOS set to boot from an off board PCI-slot adapter.  In other
words, try disabling your onboard IDE controllers and setting the BIOS
to boot from a secondary controller (was that redundant?).  Also, kernel
2.2.X has a feature in the setup that puts off-board controllers first
(hda1, hda2...), and then the on-board controllers (hda3, hda4..).  Of
course this means that you would have to re-compile the kernel and make
a boot disk.  You should be able to get around this if you disable the
on-board controllers.

I hope this helps, if not maybe someone else has some insight into this
problem.
