All,
Ok, I'm announcing a bit of a 'beta test' here before announcing it to
the big NTLUG list.
What is Jobs at ntlug.org?
-----------------------
NTLUG is now offering a new mailing list, jobs at ntlug.org, for its
members. Jobs will be a moderated list for job postings, job rumors,
things you overheard your boss say about maybe hiring some new Linux
geeks next month, etc.
What can I post there?
----------------------
It's a place to go for Linux-related job news for NTLUG members. While
we'll try to focus on "Linux-related" stuff, basically any free or
open source software or Unix-related position is appropriate. For
example, a listing for a Web developer, to do Perl work on Apache on
Solaris, is perfectly acceptable. Development positions for products
on Linux/Unix or where the devel platform is Linux/Unix are also
welcome. Positions for other OSes, or non-free technologies/tools,
will be evaluated by the moderator on a case-by-case basis.
Note: the postings to this list do *not* have to be announcements for
real positions. They do need to have useful content and be related to
the procurement of a Linux-related job. So a post about a new Linux
Job Web site that's taking resumes, to take only one example, would be
approved by the moderator for posting.
We'll try our best to allow only good jobs, and good job information,
to be posted, but, of course, NTLUG can offer no guarantees about the
honesty of the descriptions or the quality of the jobs. As in all
things capitalistic, Caveat Emptor!
How do I subscribe?
-------------------
To subscribe to this list, visit
<http://ntlug.org/mailman/jobs>
and follow the directions for subscribing.
That URL also has a link to the Web archives for Jobs, so you can look
back through old posts for research, etc.
How do I post?
--------------
This is a moderated list, which means someone has to approve each and
ever message posted to the list before it goes out to the list
members. This is a way for us to keep from flooding your mailboxes
with junk from Clueless Headhunters.
To post a job listing or other Linux-related job news/tidbit/rumor,
just send mail to <jobs at ntlug.org> and the moderator and Mailman will
do the rest.
What's there so far?
--------------------
Jobs will take a bit of time to get started, but Dave W. at
LinuxToday.com, and an NTLUG member, has agreed to forward postings
from LinuxToday's job board to Jobs at ntlug.org, so we'll start off with
something.
How can I help?
---------------
If you know of other *job posting mailing lists*, please contact me
about them at <kclark at ntlug.org>. They need at the very least to be
computer/technology jobs and, preferably, with a decent percentage of
Linux-related jobs.
Also, if you know, or will admit to knowing, anyone in your company's
recruiting or HR department, and you work for a company that does
something related to Linux/free software, tell them about
Jobs at ntlug.org.
Privacy
-------
The subscriber list of Jobs at ntlug.org will be kept private at all
times. You can safely subscribe without fearing your boss might see
your email address on the Jobs Web page and jump on your case
prematurely. NTLUG also will not release the Jobs mailing list to any
headhunters or other job mills.
Best,
<Kendall/>
