[NTLUG:Discuss] @home arp persistance

FYI...I just got the @home cable modem service thru Charter - they still
assign static addresses.

My question - does anyone have any details on the arp caching that athome
does on their upstream router? Original install went fine. I switched to a
different workstation and it took a long time to get it to work on the cable
modem. I was advised by a colleague to turn off the cable modem to reset
the arp cache. It finally took, and now workstation number 2 works well.

Well, now I am setting up a firewall (workstation 3) and have not been able
to make the upstream router recognize the new workstation. I shut off the
cable modem for 1-2 hours and still the upstream gateway would not respond
to a ping. I gave up, hooked workstation number 2 back up and it was
immediately working.
