Easiest way (Not for the faint of heart):

I'm assuming you know how to use Regedit.exe on Windows.

Add the following Key into the registry and reboot the system:

Under  Hkey\Local Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\VNETSUP
Add the following Key:  "EnablePlainTextPassword"=dword:00000001

<STERN WARNING>  Any mistake or typo in the registry can render your Windows
machine inoperable.  Be extremely careful (Back up the registry if possible).

This method will allow you to use Windows without encrypted passwords to
Samba.
