I'm doing an embedded project with Linux. If you look at the Linux
Router Project, and at www.toms.net, you will find many Linux's that will
fit on a floppy. This is a great starting point for embedding linux with
a small footprint as a beginning. We use flash disk to boot off of.
Our application uses "C" and the network services of Linux modules. We
haven't found a good reason to go to Java or Jini in our project, as we
didn't have to transport across many platforms. We are platform specific.
Java or Jini will consume lots of cpu resources, so if you have real
time implications you may not wish to use it. If you do wish to use it
close to real time, I strongly suggest pentium class at 133mhz or better.
