Ali,
I have an ATI Rage 128 AGP card and got it to work with RedHat 6.0 and 6.1.
Your friend might take a look at the following web page:
http://www4.ncsu.edu/~distclai/rage128-howto.html
I'm not sure if his exact card is covered, but the site may help.
I installed a SuSE ATI server, xrage.rpm, (there's a link to it on the web
site above), then ran Xconfigurator --expert,
chose the SVGA server, set up X, and then ran Xconfigurator again to fine
tune. It was a little bit of a hassle but it
works. Also, if your friend decides to upgrade to RedHat 6.0 or 6.1, he can
do so using text mode and then set up the card
afterwards.
I believe there's been some talk of the next version of XFree supporting a
broader range, and maybe all, of the ATI cards.
Good luck.
James

Subject: [NTLUG:Discuss] A Video question
Hi everyone.
A friend of mine has recently installed Redhat 5.1. He has a problem running
and configuring X on his machine. I don't have access to his machine (he
lives somewhere else) but here is the info he gave me: he has ati 3D Rage
IIc AGP video card and he has configured it to something that I am not sure:
he said he has configured it to ATI Xpert at Play PCI and AGP, 3D Rage Pro
XF86_Mach64. He then sent me the image of his screen which you can view at
http://www.math.lsa.umich.edu/~naddaf/linux.jpg
Does any one have any quick solution? I guess he has configured it
incorrectly so is there anyone out there with the same video card?
Many thanks, Ali.
