Note that the IRS paperwork that would make us "officially charitable"
is still outstanding, which means that we will unfortunately be unable
to do the proposed idea of encouraging "mass donations" to free software
projects.
I would nonetheless encourage members to contribute particularly to the
three suggested organizations (FSF, XFree86, SPI (parent of Debian)), and
will bring in some forms that can make direct contributions pretty easy.
One other thing that can happen at the December meeting is for us to have
a Rather Extended Drawing. There is a seriously large pile of stuff that
we have to be given away, as well as a sizable pile of CDs that were not
sold last month.
We have some software (some Perl scripts) that can make it easy to get
members signed in in a pretty efficient manner, and this software can
readily be "primed" using the NTLug mailing list. In order to deploy
this, we need a couple of laptops that can run some Perl/Curses scripts.
The hardware requirements are not onerous; the software and data can
readily be managed by floppy. If there are people that would be willing
to make their computers (ideally laptops) available for this purpose,
I can see about emailing copies of the software so that we can be sure
that all the necessary components are functioning. People interested
in helping out with this can contact me directly; your assistance will
be appreciated.

Including a destination in the CC list that will cause the recipients'
mailer to blow out is a good way to stifle dissent.
