The web dictionary I always use is Merriam-Webster at www.m-w.com.
I've also played a mud called Ancient Anguish, as well as a now
defunct moo, both of which had command line interfaces to the same
dictionary. The dictionary on the moo at least was not cached;
it did a socket connection to somewhere and got the definitions.
I'm guessing Ancient Anguish does it the same way. You could find
them through mudconnector.com.
Hope this helps you as a starting poing.
