[NTLUG:Discuss] Dual boot filesystems

I'm in the process of converting a Win9x system to dual boot and would
appreicate any feedback on whether anyone has had any success or failure
on the following configuration.
Currently the system in question is a Win9x workstation sitting on a LAN
with Samba and all user files living on a Linux fileserver. The Win9x box
currently has a 3.4G Maxtor drive and I'll be adding a 8.4G Maxtor with
the Linux /boot partition as hdb1 so booting won't be an issue. This
system will be removed from the LAN so Samba will be gone from the
equation and I don't want users to have to access their data over a 128K
WAN link.
The plan is to install fat partitions for the user data and then link
/home/username to the fat partition. I'll setup each user partition as a
non-shared resource under Win9x and of course Linux permissions under
Linux. This way users should be able to access their data under either
boot without having to know what's going on at the OS level. Any problems
here that I need to know about?
TIA
