As several others have written, the router is the better path to take,
IMHO. I have a 3Com Office LanModem. On the upside, it has the T1 for
2 phone sockets, a built in 4 port hub, firewall capibilities, NAT, and
it easy to use as it's invisible to the using machines (as it is a
router with dialup capabilities). On the downside, you pay a bit more
for that 3Com name, and it expects to be managed (controlled?) by a
Windows machine (it does something special to synchronize its clock that
only works on my Win machine but not on my Linux machine). But it was a
breeze to set up.
