As an addendum to Scott Womers' comments. If your getting the IPC
password request something is broken in the mapping, you should not see
this one. You need to make sure that your Win9x users have the same login
name as Linux. Make sure your smb.conf maps users to their profile
correctly ie logon path = \\%L\%U\windows\Profiles. Did you build you
smbpasswd file? Check your workgroup setting.
Also if your using NIS remember to rebuild it after adding your windows
workstation to hosts or a new user.
I always use encrypted passwords so that I don't have to mess with the
windows registry cause that can also create problems that are hard to
track down.
