I had a similar problem with 4.61.  Turned out in this case that
Netscape was attempting to resolve the mailhost canonical name when I
would bring up Messenger, or the home page canonical name when bringing
up the browser.  Netscape would "lock down" until it figured out it
couldn't resolve the address.  Problem was solved by using IP addresses
instead of canonical names.
