[NTLUG:Discuss] NIS (YP)

Okay, I'll finally confess, we finally got one of the Linux machines up and
working in a classroom.

Let me explain the holdup, and ask a question or two.

I put a few Linux machines in classrooms in the fall. First thing that
happened, is that two teachers promptly forgot their passwords. I could a
HUGE major problem, I would be getting called out of class, by idiots who
couldn't remember passwords and I'd have to run down to their room to put
in a new password, so I decided to try to implement NIS -- and did NFS at
the same time. No problem with the NFS -- and that's good with the old
systems, that way, people aren't saving files on a machine that may
potentially (and probably) fail soon. And if there is a problem, I drop in
a new machine, no files are missing etc. I just have to run backups
occassionally.

So here's the problem -- I can't figure out how to add users to the SuSE
distribution (6.1) YAST says that it doesn't support NIS. Do I use
useradd? And how do I set up their home directory then? And make sure
ownership is right?

Thanks.
