The security holes to be found in sendmail is enough reason, IMO, to
use another MTA.  And the simplicity of setting up sendmail, once you
go beyond the constraints of "a very basic configuration," as you
point out, begins to diminish quite rapidly the more complex of a
configuration that is required.
