OK, I don't know if this is getting out of hand, but here is what is
going to happen.  I have been left to deal with the list as I see fit
(don't worry, I am not _that_ crazy).  Here is what I see happening:

1.  I am going to draft a "What's it about/NTLUG Discuss Guidelines"
type paper and post it on the lists web site.  I will also try (I am not
sure what all I have access to right now) to get it added to the Welcome
email to new subscribers get.

2.  I am taking recommendations from the readers (this is _our_ list
after all) on how to handle the posts (if they are off topic, too
"flamey" or whatever) and what to include and not include in this paper
mentioned in #1.

3.  I am _not_ going to send messages to the list when something appears
to be "off topic" anymore, but will send an email to the parties
involved (usually a single person, but the occasional argument will get
carried away as well).  This will not bother the other people and should
keep some of what people are complaining about off the list.

Since the paper is going to take some time (sorry, I have to do a little
work too), I would like for anyone who has any ideas of what to include
to email me off list.  I don't want to get into an argument about what
to include and what not on list.  What I will do is take ideas from
anyone, put together what _I_ think is a good plan and then post it to
the group for feedback.
