Using RH6.1, I couldn't find any difference in logins. FTP server is
wu-ftpd-2.6.0-9.
It does say anonymous login is treated differently, and tries to resolve
password into user and domain. You might check the lib's and bin's under ~ftp.

Subject: [NTLUG:Discuss] anonymous ftp is slow
When I ftp to my linux box as an anonymous login and upload/download a file,
the transfer rate is extremely slow (100-200 bytes sec).
If I, at the very same time, ftp in with a user account name and password
and download a file, the rate is over 10k/sec.
What could be causing the anonymous login to be so slow?
I'm using slackware 7.0, kernel 2.2.13.
Scott
