I'll add bit of fuel to this fire...
This was a well know "bug" in early 1.1.x days, so I never installed
GPM. Even now, I avoid it, though it's said to be "fixed". I guess
your experiences dispell that. :-) I even go so far as to recompile
_vim_ which comes with the GPM option on the SuSE CD.
