WinFats ATA66 pci(CMD648)

after messing about in the cmos to get my pci nic and my pci ata66 card to
live together...not succeeding

during the proccess X hung...bad
I could do nothing but press reset......that did it I think...what "it" is I
hope someone can tell me

In now have this upon boot
INIT: cannot execute "/sbin/mingetty"
INIT: cannot execute "/sbin/mingetty"
INIT: cannot execute "/sbin/mingetty"
INIT: cannot execute "/sbin/mingetty"
INIT: cannot execute "/etc/X11/prefdm"
INIT: "Id1" respwaning too fast : Shutting down for five minutes
INIT: "Id2" respwaning too fast : Shutting down for five minutes
etc.....
over and over
is it hopeless?


for some reason I cant figure
the addon cmd648 card shows up as third & fourth ide
in the p.o.s.t.

but after lilo
the kernel sees it as ide0&1

I had to swap my drives' connections treating the addon as the onboard
in order to get the kernel to boot because it kept  halting when it could
not mount the partitions in fstab due to the fact that /dev/hda had become
/dev/hde before I swapped the cables this worked fine for about
4 hours till my satisfaction evaporated
and trouble precipitated

I cant find anything listed about "respawning too fast" in any place I know
to look

please help...I do not like being stuck in windows
