I pulled out the addon card 
so I am now back to the two onboard ide channels
hda,hdb,hdc,cdwriter only

I hoped that would fix my boot issue

now my "only" trouble is this


I now have this upon boot
INIT: cannot execute "/sbin/mingetty"
INIT: cannot execute "/sbin/mingetty"
INIT: cannot execute "/sbin/mingetty"
INIT: cannot execute "/sbin/mingetty"
INIT: cannot execute "/etc/X11/prefdm"
INIT: "Id1" respwaning too fast : Shutting down for five minutes
INIT: "Id2" respwaning too fast : Shutting down for five minutes
etc.....
over and over with a couple of "Id"s
