[NTLUG:Discuss] Best residential connectivity in the Richardson area

Hello all:

I'll be moving there within a month or so for a new job (working with
Linux! :) ). My question is, what are people's opinions of the various
high speed connection options in the Dallas area? I read the thread about
the potential problems with SWBell installation of DSL.

I have DSL with US WEST here in Phoenix and I LOVE it. Cable modems here
are only available in certain areas and the cable company has ridiculous
policies about not running any services (they even port scan their
customers looking for accepted connections to 80, 25, etc! It's
crazy. So then people deny all traffic from the netblock of their own ISP
and other weird things to "hide" their web and mail servers.) Anyway,
there is also a high-speed microwave dish setup called
speedchoice. Problem is with their two-way service people complain of
high packet loss like in the 50% range.

DSL has been great so far. Longest service interuption was four hours in
the last year and a half. I own my external Cisco 675 now, so I could
bring that with me.

Any help and/or feedback would be appreciated. I need to start house
hunting and high-speed connectivity to run my servers on is as important
as centralized heating and cooling :)

Thanks!

Wes
