some things to check:
1) while it's still working, look at the installed modules. i'm guessing you'll
see ppp & bsd_comp & pcmcia. if these are autoclean, they may be auto-removing
themselves when they shouldn't.
2) see if netstat -rn and /etc/resolv.conf change.
3) wait at least 3 minutes for netscape to tell you if it had a name resolver
problem.

You might just ping thru-out your session and see if the hang still happens.
Unfortunately, I know another person (who never bothered to resolve this same
problem) who just gave up and replaced it with freebsd.

Subject: [NTLUG:Discuss] Kppp freezing?

Hello:

I just installed RH 6.1a on my Dell Inspiron laptop.

I went thru the installation of a KDE workstation and left all the
default settings and things seem to be working, but after a whle of
being connected via kppp, my telnet session and netscape stop
responding. I can still ping other machines and get a response, so the
transport seems to be still working.

Has anyone seen any behavior like this before?

Any ideas how to fix it?

Thanks,
  Neil.
