Quoting A.L. <al at 9b.com>:
In my experience with @home (both in Toronto, and in Nashville,
never used a cablemodem in Texas), they require DHCP for the clients,
simply copying the auto-assigned Windows IP/GW/Etc won't work (Cablerouter
thingy remembers MAC addr of NIC who DHCP'd the IP).
You can reset the cable modem to aquire the new mac addr. It has
a reset button on the back. Or just pull the power, and then
power back up. And double check your ip addrs and subnet masks
on both cards.
If I understand you correctly, when pluging your win box directly
into the cable modem, you can ping your (ISP) gateway, DNS, and
the rest of the world.
But when you plug the linux box into the cable modem you can't
ping anything? Your gateway, DNS, etc..
Can you send a copy of your ifconfig output? If reseting the
cable modem doesn't fix it.
