I recently acquired a free WD Enterprise 2170 UW SCSI hard drive,
and I am having some bizare results with it. I can't tell if it just
doesn't play nicely with my other SCSI devices (I have something like 7 or
8 other SCSI gadgets of varying variety's at last count), or if I've got
something set wrong. For background info, here's the config:
Config:
SCSI Card 0: Adaptec 2940UW
SCSI Card 1: Adaptec 2940
SCSI Card 0: ID 1: IBM 34xx
SCSI Card 0: ID 1: WD 2170
SCSI Card 1: CD-ROM, CD-RW, ZIP, and a few HD's of varying sizes and
capabilities. (No problems with anything on this card, so I'm assuming
it's OK for the moment. If anyone knows reason something on secondary
might affect primary controller, I'll go look up the exact details of
what's attached to the second card).
Now then, best clue I've managed to get so far is the mention on
WD's website that the Enterprise series attempts to do a HD negotiated
sync (ie: the drive itself tries to tell the SCSI ctrler what it is, and
how it likes to talk, and not vis-vis). Soon as I shut down again, I'm
going to try disabling this feature, as well as the SCAM support.
ARRRRRRRGGGG.... SCSI bus 0 just started going into reset's, time
to reboot before it all goes to hell.... will write more later..

If what they've been doing hasn't solved the problem, tell them to do
something else.
