   It should be noted that on most setups, ctrl+alt+bcksp will kill the X
   session, not just get you to command line you ran X from.  You probably
   want something like ctrl+alt+f1
   
Oops, that's what I meant to say.
   
   (where f1 may be another function key,
   depending on which VC you ran X from).
