Try this, manually kill the vmware processes. Then run vmware-config.pl.
Answer the questions:
Do you want this script to automatically configure your system to allow
your
Virtual Machines to access the host filesystem? (yes/no/help) [no] no
Do you want to be able to use the network in your Virtual Machines?
[yes] yes
Do you want to be able to use host-only networking in your Virtual
Machines?
[no] no
I think you problem may be the third question. The virtual machine is
trying to be a Samba host. I have had a similar error if both the second
and third questions are answered yes.
Don't know if that's it but it worked for me.
