Red Hat, Inc. Bug Fix Advisory

Synopsis: New Plugger package available
Advisory ID: RHBA-2000:033-02
Issue date: 2000-06-07
Updated on: 2000-06-07
Product: Red Hat Powertools
Keywords: bus error Netscape

1. Topic:

Netscape crashes with a bus error when Plugger is installed.

2. Relevant releases/architectures:

Red Hat Powertools 6.1 - i386 sparc
Red Hat Powertools 6.2 - i386 sparc

3. Problem description:

Some users have reported that Netscape crashes with a bus error after Plugger is installed. We have not been able to reproduce this. A probable cause is the use of a debug file in /tmp. The new package does not make use of the debug file.

4. Solution:

For each RPM for your particular architecture, run:

rpm -Fvh [filename]

where filename is the name of the RPM.

Some users have also reported upgrading Netscape to 4.73 fixes the problem without upgrading Plugger.

5. Bug IDs fixed (http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla for more info):

11467 - plugger-3.2-2.i386.rpm causes Bus error in Netscape
11936 - plugger creates /tmp/ndebug or crashes (bus error)
