I just saw a news article about Corel donating about $ 100,000 of Linux
to the DISD (Dallas Indep. School Distr.) Apparently, they gave DISD
2,000 copies each, of their Corel Linux distro, and of Corel WordPerf.
Office. I saw it somewhere else, and found a press release on Corel's
site; it happened April 29. If you're interested, the Corel press
release is at:
http://www.corel.com/news/2000/may/may_1_2000.htm
The donation was made to the DISD CAST program (Connect a Student to
Technology). Apparently, that program makes donated computers available
to students, to take the PC home, parents get email from teachers, etc.

I am pleased to see Corel doing something to involve new generations of
PC users and Linux users. As a user group member, I am displeased to see
Corel apparently doesn't do anything with the user groups. I just did a
search of the Dallas Morning News' Archive, and I did not find any
mention of a news article about this.
