Does there appear to be non-null data in the wav file?  Do other wav files play
correctly?  Did you play with your mixer settings?  With the right mixer
settings, I can talk into the mike and out the pc speakers.

Well, record shows the mic to be responding and saves a .wav file. When
I play back the .wav file I get no sound.
