Hi David,
Yes, I have run both. They both work, but my preference is Win4Lin, for
my purposes. My observations are that Win4Lin requires a much smaller
footprint in terms of HD, memory, CPU cycles, and dollars. However
nothing is free. It does not do everything that VMWare does. It is
restricted to running Windows 95/98 and does not, at this, time support
multimedia (The CD works, but not for multimedia apps), programs that
mess directly with the screen, and MS Networking. On the positive side,
it uses the Linux IP Stack and that is a GOOD IDEA. In the last 5-6
weeks I've been running it, Win98SE has only locked up twice (and one of
those was my fault). MS Office works great as does IE 5 and the Palm
Pilot interface. It also links nicely to my SAMBA file/print server.
My current system, which runs quite nicely, is an old Toshiba 2545XCDT
laptop using an AMD K-2 333 processor, 64MB of RAM and has a 4 GB HD.
