: I found a reference to agpgart being part of the GLX structure.
: Am I right in thinking this means that if I want AGP access I must
: use GLX..and all its limitations?
:
: Or is agpgart something I can take advantage of with a normal
: Glide/Mesa installation and my 2.2.16 kernel?

maybe i can help you understand a small piece of this. the following
are all kernel modules with their own AGP code:

  Utah-GLX agpgart
  3Dfx Device3Dfx (from 3Dfx 3.3.x codebase)
  3Dfx tdfx_drm (from 3Dfx DRI codebase)

i'm unsure of how much AGP code the linux kernel has in it, so i'm can't
really tell you why you see the performance increase. just wanted to
clear up the fact that these packages are kernel modules and not some
userland program.
