You know, I seem to remember some of the old 3COM cards having a setup
option in the EEPROM configuration that tells the nic that there may be a
modem of XX speed installed in the machine. This options was to prevent
IRQ overruns between the 3COM nics and the modem.
Try getting a copy of the 3cxxxcfg.exe and try running it under DR-DOS (or
some other flavor of DOS if you must) and check for the modem setting in
your nic.
I thought that was only on isa nics but I could be wrong...
