[NTLUG:Discuss] What is the best combination?

Hi all:

I have 3 linux box and some windoz, one of these linux
boses will be used as firewall for those windoz. I want
to run DNS (primary and secondary), webserver, mailserver,
postgreSQL server, (these are primary) and ftp server
(optional). all these 3 boxes has public IP addresses.

For security purposes (or say, it would be more secure
combination) which servers run in the same box will be
the best combination?

some one may say, run all the servers behind the firewall,
yes, but this is not what I want. (configure those
server behind firewall and can be access by public maybe
beyond my ability at this moment, I will learn and try.
also, this configuration will make the firewall less
secure, right?)

Another question, if ftp server do not be installed,
than people will not be able to download binary files
via browsers?
