I have cable modem as well as DSL modem. I created a ping script which
pings the immediate gateway of each broadband modems' connection.
When both pings to its respective gateway fail, the script proceeds to
fire up the dialup as usual. Same thing for teardowns.
Using the ifconfig's IFF_UP for either ethernet (ie. eth0) or internal
ADSL (ie. nas1) network interface is not sufficient to detect such
outage.
I've tried to arrange for RIPv2 or even EBGP with my broadband providers
and I got laughed at. Pity, this should be the next hot-ticket demand
after getting a broadband connection.
This is only viable solution I know.
