Have any of you heard about libsafe? Read this blurb and see what you
think. It's good to see a company such as Lucent making software available
under GPL.
BE SAFE-WITH LIBSAFE
Among computer intruders, one of the most popular means of attack is the
buffer overflow, in which a program is deliberately overloaded in a way that
gives the intruder control of the running process. Many Linux programs are
vulnerable to buffer overflow attacks, but the vulnerabilities often remain
unknown until intruders learn how to exploit them.
Thanks to the efforts of the Network Software Research Department at Lucent
Labs, there's a new utility called Libsafe that prevents buffer overflow
intrusions at the system level-which means that you'll be protected even if
you're running defective software. Commendably, the Lucent folks have made
Libsafe available under the terms of the GNU Library Public License, so you
can expect to see this valuable contribution appearing in the next version
of your Linux distribution. To obtain it now, visit

and click through first to the Projects page and then to the Libsafe page.
