Just recalled something else.  In Suse 6.4, if you launch YAST from a
window, by the button on the panel, it gives you the older original YAST,
using that yellow background.

I_think_it was the newer graphical Suse YAST2.  IIRC, I had to launch it
from a command line -- I think I did it from a terminal, while in GNOME;
Maybe I had exited X, and gone back out to plain command line.  Just
typed YAST2 or yast2, and it came up.  Maybe that's where it was.  

I just looked around support pages on SuSE's website, 

http://www.suse.com/

and found nothing helpful on my point; although doing a search on "sound"
produced 1 or 2  refs. to sblastr live.  Maybe one of them would help
you?  Good luck; wish I could have helped more.
