Had nothing to do with graphical or non-graphical install...either
one would just simply hang.  The copy of Mandrake is good, worked
ok on different HW.  I anticipated that my SuSE copy would have
similar problems.... I was surprised when he said it went smoothly.

On the subject of standards and RPMs, please remember that it
is the RedHat (emphasis on RedHat) Package Manager and that Redhat
determined where files should go and how on their distribution...
SuSE and other "weird" distributions are trying to follow LHS
or other "stupid non-Redhat" based standards as to where files
go.  If you want the Redhat layout, stick with Redhat.
Mandrake's Redhat history is what keeps them in line with
where Redhat determined that files should go.  I will admit,
there a few instances where I think SuSE put some things in
the wrong places, but in general, they pay closer attention
to how things "were supposed to be" with regards to
package locations.  Again, YMMV.
