My first computer was an Atari 400 of pretty similar vintage.

It's pretty impressive that you found someone willing to grant that much.

My contacts in Fort Worth are somewhat limited; I work in Fort Worth
but it's not terribly representative as it's just south of the airport
along the narrow "tongue" of Fort Worth that extended east specifically
to include the area my office is in.

I'm passing word of this on to the "North Texas Linux Users Group,"
of which I am one of the officers; there may be someone more familiar
with relevant contacts in Fort Worth.
