[NTLUG:Discuss] NIC Woes

Have you checked the NIC? Verify the NIC against other operating systems if
you can. If you can't easily do that, try downloading the QNX floppy disk
demo. It's entertaining and supports more than one NIC. If you can
establish a connection using that, then the NIC is fine and there's a config
problem under Linux. Otherwise, the opposite is likely true and you need to
look at problems surrounding that.

What type of card is it anyway? You failed to mention that.

It's not likely that an IP conflict is causing the problem you are
experiencing. The link activity on ethernet has almost nothing to do with
the protocol(s) riding on top of it.

The difference between "server" and "workstation" installs is just packages
selected for installation. Pay that no mind. IMHO, install using custom
always and if this is your first look at it, then sit back, take your time
and read about every single package you are installing. (There is
additional information about every package that is to be installed. Learn
what you are installing and decide for yourself if you will ever use it and
if you *might* make a mental not and don't install it until you need it.
But the time you do, there will be a newer version anyway.) I'm sure you're
not against learning about what you have or against saving space on your
system's hard drive.
