[NTLUG:Discuss] Adaptec 2930 under RH6.2

I'm posting this for a friend of mine. If you can help, we'd appreciate
it.

Seems my friend has an older PC (I'm sure of Pentium flavor -- he didn't
say) and he's trying to get an Adaptec 2930 to work with RH 6.2. As he
says,

"Surprisingly enough, the kernel doesn't detect it, and I can't
figure out how to force load the aic7xxx module that's supposed
to support it. Seems to work if I modprobe it manually......<sigh>"

It's a PCI version and the RH documents say that the controller is
compatible. I'll presume :-) that means it should work. The machine
is booting from an IDE hard drive, not through the Adaptec board.

Is there anyone out there who might have some experience with this
board and offer some suggests to getting the board detected without
the modprobe?
