[NTLUG:Discuss] Fun things to do with shiny discs you don't really own.

I found this story about a project called Xine on Linux Today a couple
of days ago, thought some of you might find it interesting, in case you
missed it. It's a simple mpeg/VCD/DVD(unencrypted) player that shows a
lot of promise, and is already useable (if somewhat inconvenient).
Here's the URL:

I must say, I'm impressed. It runs perfectly on my 667MHz P3 with Xfree
3.3.6 in 16bpp color mode. For the most part, audio and video are
perfectly synched, but I've noticed some things (not sure what) that
throw the sync way off.
Of course, none of the extra DVD features such as menus are working at
this point in time, perhaps some day they will be. Currently, it does
not continue on to the next "VOB" file after getting to the end of the
current one, so you have to close the program and manually increment the
file name and then start Xine again. Doing this, I was able to watch
the only unencrypted DVD I had, it was the demo disc that came with my
A/V DVD player. Xine, by default, does not come with software to decode
the encryption that is on most DVD's.
There is a simple method for thumbing noses at organizations that aren't
too popular. <wink>
Xine is also extensible via plug-ins so that new features can be added.
<wink wink> (sorry, something in my eye) <wink> :-P
Enjoy everyone,
Stephen
p.s. I kinda took a cue from the Linux Today article in the wording of
my message. ;-)
Yohan : I'll explain later.
PeeWee: Later, always later.
