  Remember you can have more than one gateway, but only One default gateway.
  The default GW is where everything goes if all other gateways fail.

  I believe that the entry in /etc/sysconfig/network corresponds to the
  default gateway. Other gateways are defined in the individual files
  (Redhat/Turbo/Mandrak) in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ethX.
  
   Other distro's have their own config files with similar settings.
