: I recently upgraded my cdrecord from version 1.8 to 1.9. After having done
: so, whenever I ran cdrecord -scanbus, it hung the entire computer...
: <snip/>
: My question is this:
: Is this a normal sort of thing to have to do, or did I miss some simpler
: solution (my background is nt, not linux)?
:
: The platform:
: <snip/>
: cdrecord 1.9
: <snip/>
: Adaptec 1542
: Ricoh 1420C with 512K Cache
Well, i won't consider it normal, but it happens...
You have two options: [1] go back to 1.8 and forget about it or [2] try
to figure out what's causing it.
It's somewhat appropriate that my random signature turned out to be what
it is because I would go with option [2]. First thing to do is get the
latest bleeding-edge (alpha) version of cdrecord. Try to do a -scanbus
and see what happens. If it locks up, go to the following page and read
up on what to do to report the problem to the author.

If you can make the latest development version crater, the author will
definately want to know about it.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents. If I get time, I'll upgrade and see what
happens on my box (completely different hardware though).
