Ahh, you're lucky, I found it.  OK, recent is relative isn't it. :-)  Check
out the Jan 2000 issue (#69), page 50.  They discuss the OpenPhone
(www.openphone.org) project, as well as the underlying protocols and such.  I
don't know if it'll meet your needs or not, but maybe you'll get lucky. :-)
